The Speaker Of Parliament Position Gone In Favour Of The NDC

The report emanating from the Parliament House has it that members from the opposite side of the house are nominating Speaker from both side to lead the August House in the eight parliament. Meanwhile the Member Elect for Assin-North constituency in the Central Region was also on the floor of the House participating in proceedings .

The report indicated the MP was allowed in all proceedings and was also sworn-in alongside his colleagues MPS elect on Thursday January 7, 2021 ,despite the injunction placed on him from the court.

The clerk of Parliament who right from the start of proceedings allowed the Assin North Constituency MP in all the proceedings warned him against partaking in the exercise to decide on Speaker for the eight parliament and bear the consequences there after . This was after a long hours of stalemate between the two parties NDC and NPP who both claimed the legality or otherwise of James Gyekye Quayson's involvement in the voting exercise.

The clerk of the August House of Parliament in the heat of the chaos surrounding the MPs injunction and participation in the voting exercise from both sides , told the parties leadership that " he has spoken to the MP James Gyekye Quayson and the two leaders duely informed of the implications and consequences to bear when he participate in the voting exercise.

The truth is ,there was a heated argument and chaos that erupted in the Parliament House over the injunction placed on MP Elect For Assin North Constituency. There was verbal and protracted exchanges over the legality of the MP Elect to participate in the election of the Speaker of the 8th Parliament.

The NDC MPs in their arguments insisted their summon was not properly served on the clerk of Parliament who chaired the proceedings, and the NPP on the other hand argued there is an injunction on the Assin North Constituency MP which bar him from the election of the Speaker.

The Assin North Constituency NDC MP Elect James Gyekye Quayson has been placed under an injunction by the Cape Coast High Court over an alleged dual citizenship and bared him from holding himself as the MP Elect for the constituency .This is the petition against the MP Elect by Micheal Ankoma Nimfah ,a mason and a resident of Assin North Constituency in the Central Region.

In the court ruling on Wednesday January 6 ,2021 , Justice Kwesi Boakye, who was the presiding judge said Quayson was, restrained from holding himself out as the MP Elect For the Assin North Constituency and further presenting himself to be sworn in as Member of Parliament until the final determination of the petition.

The assertion on dual citizenship was an initiative of the New Patriotic Party which he dismissed earlier on as claimed by his detractors .The NDC is currently disputing the allegations and said the MP Elect has presented himself to the Electoral Commission upon the petition and defended himself with documents to prove his citizenship status and renounced his Canadian citizenship.

The complainant explained that ,the MP Elect holds on his Canadian citizenship when he was filling to contest in the December elections .Today it looks as if the judges at the Supreme and High Court, do not investigate the cases vigorously before giving judgement.
