Why Should You Tell Viewers About A Gift You Gave Me Privately? – TV3 Host Questions NPP Panelist

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, presidential staffer in charge of Local government and Decentralization joined Johnnie Hughes on The Big Issue on TV3’s New Day today, Monday, August 8, 2022. They duo were assisted by lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe, a member of the oppositional National Democratic Congress’ legal team. The trio discussed the latest downgrade of the economy.

In a recent rating, Standard and Poor downgraded Ghana’s economy to CCC+ and summarized it with a negative outlook. In reaction, Dennis called for a review of some of these international rating agencies. He noted that the situation isn’t good but then the downgrades are a doubt and should be investigated. Dennis rather blamed the Ukraine-Russian war and explained that this has caused the cedi to fall and the government had to spend more when using dollars to buy.

Johnnie then probed why this is happening when Vice President Bawumia had said that the country will move from taxation to production and yet the country keeps importing. Dennis boldly insisted that it is a process and that insisted that locals are now producing shoes and food. He made an example of a shoe he is wearing made in Akropong and coffee made by local people.

Amusingly, Dennis added that he had even gifted Johnnie some of the coffee to taste. Apparently, Johnnie wasn’t happy and asked whey a confidential matter had been brought into a discussion on live TV. Johnnie called on Dennis to add that it was just a small box of coffee and nothing big. Dennis rebutted that if he had not mentioned this on TV Johnnie could have lied. He added that whether small or big box, local producers are making coffee and the government deserves credit.

It is surprising that despite downgrade from international accredited agencies like Fitch, Moody’s and S&P, the government still blames everyone apart from themselves for the financial mess of the country. The finance Minister keeps insisting that he is working hard to turn around the economy and called on all Ghanaians to burden share with the government.
