Parliament yesterday under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin referred law maker for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong to the privileges Committee for threatening the life of a journalist. The motion was brought before Parliament by Multimedia Group and the issue raised was raised on the floor by Alhassan Suhuyini, MP for Tamale North.
Kweku Baako was on the Good Morning Show today, Thursday, July 15, 2021 and shared insights into the issue. According to Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, he would have loved to say much because the issue was a thorny one but people may misinterpret it and read meanings into it because he is not in cordial terms with the Assin Central MP. He however explained that it was good that the case has been referred to the Disciplinary Committee for action.
“I felt sorry when I heard he was the Chairman of Defense and Interior. His information is dubious. The Ghana Police have failed especially in inviting Kennedy Agyapong for questioning. There is a certain character trait following him. I don’t want to talk much so that people will say I have issues with him. I am happy that Suhuyini raised the issue and the Speaker for fast tracking the case.
I want to speak the way I want but people will say I am being personal. We are still in court and Kennedy has acknowledged that he did not tell the truth but peddled untruth. It was a case of misguided and misplaced aggression. You can’t go around and be peddling untruths” Kweku Baako said.
All eyes are watching to see what will come out of the findings of the Privileges Committee. This is not the first time Kennedy Agyapong has threatened a journalist. The Ahmed Suale incident is a vivid example. Again the loud mouthed MP has said many questionable things that has been left to go. It seems this time it will not go unnoticed.
