The National Democratic Congress flagbearer race is thickening by the day. John Mahama has been on the ticket NDC as flagbearer for the past 3 elections. Out of the 3 elections, he has won just one and lost 2 to incumbent, President Akufo-Addo. Though John Mahama lost the 2020 elections, many feel he did creditably well and could lead the NDC again. Others are also calling for fresh faces in the race as the ruling New Patriotic Party is also set to field a new face.
Today, Monday, November 29, 2021 Dr. kwabena Duffour, an aspiring NDC flagbearer announced his vison for Ghana. Themed the Ghanaian Dream, the former Bank of Ghana governor spoke of plans to take Ghana to unprecedented economic glory. However, in order to do that he has a hard task of upsetting John Mahama in the NDC flagbearer race.
In an interview with Roland Walker, Duffour spoke of his political ambitions and those he hopes to be his running mate. He named 2 people he faces to partner him. According to him Alban Bagbin has over 30 years of experience and his assistance will be instrumental as he stands for president. He also paid tribute to Haruna Iddrisu who he sees as working hard in politics and able to help him govern Ghana.
However, with the allegiance of Speaker Alban Bagbin and Haruna Iddrisu to the John Mahama it is unlikely any will be a running mate. Bagbin for instance will have to quit his speakership role if he wants to contest. Maybe, Duffour would want to gain some popularity in 2024 before finally lead the NDC in 2024 with the assistance of Haruna Iddrisu or Bagbin. Can Duffour upset JM in the race to 2024?
