An NPP Election Aspirant Spent Over 2 million Cedis And Still Lost To Delegates – Joy News Explains

The ruling New Patriotic Party over the weekend conducted her national executive elections. The elections saw Stephen Ntim and Justin Frimpong Koduah emerge as Party Chairman and General Secretary respectively. Henry Nana Boakye won the National Organizer position with Kate Gyamfuah retaining the Women’s Organizer role.

One of the aspirants for the National Chairmanship race was Asamoah Boateng. Many had tipped him to give Stephen Ntim a hard time. Indeed, it has taken Stephen Ntim 20 years to finally grab the seat of National Chairman after 4 failed attempts. In their analysis of the elections, Evans Mensah, head of the Political Desk at Joy News mentioned that he was witness to a number of delegates being given money.

According to Evans, right behind where he was granting interviews he could hear and see cash being sprayed on delegates. Indeed, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, a National Chairman aspirant on Saturday also mentioned that some of his colleagues were influencing delegates with money. He refused to mention names but said that he wants the party hierarchy to deal with monetization issues.

When asked if he also gave money to the delegates, Asamoah Boateng said he only gave the delegates Travel and Transportation T&T. He explained that he first gave 150 cedis and then another 150 cedis and finally 100 cedis. He insisted that aside this 400 cedis given to the delegates he didn’t add anything else. In Evans Mensah’s estimation, Asamoah Boateng spent 2,456,800 million cedis on delegates T&T and yet lost. Assuming we go by Asabee’s comments it means all 6,146 delegates were given travelling money of 400 cedis and yet in the end he lost.

Stephen Ntim managed to pull a whopping 4,014 votes while Stephen Asamoah Boateng pulled 1,010 with the closest rival gaining less than 300 votes. If Asamoah Boateng spent over 2.4 million and still lost, then the question remains as to what others paid noting that Asamoah Boateng had alleged delegates were induced with money.
