The Caucus for Democratic Governance, Ghana' (CDG-GH), sees the 2021 budget presented by the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Hon. Osei Kye-Mensah-Bonsu on the behalf of the the president, Nana Akufo-Addo's as a set of policies and programs that seeks to worsen the plight of ordinary people. In short, the 2021 budget is a complete joke.
What the caucus for Democratic Governance is saying is, before the budget, Ghanaians were already struggling with High prices on food and commodities, however the imposition of more taxes on the suffering masses, will only collapse small businesses and make nonsense all the incentives for economic growth.
The imposition of new taxes will increase unemployment and drive desperate citizens into robbery and criminalities in the country. So if the government has any attempt to revive the collapsing economy, then it must begin from the reduction in taxes, restrictions on imports and the introduction of Luxury tax( tax on luxury goods).
According to CDG-GH, an economy which was sent to the intensive care unit in March 2020, after massive borrowing, should reduce expenditures and increase productivity to incite recovery, but the 2021 budget statement is a joke instigated by the president Nana Akufo-Addo because it is his last term in office.
