It is the most stinking corruption scandal in this country- Sammy Gyamfi fumes

The National Communication Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress has described the purchase of the Sputnik V vaccine at a whopping 19 dollars per jab as a rip-off of public purse.

It has emerged that the government of Ghana through two middlemen have purchased the Sputinik V vaccine at $19 instead of $10 as it is being sold across the world.

Speaking on Metro TV today, Mr Sammy Gyamfi insists goverment must suspend the agreement with the two intermediaries and constitute a bipartisan parliamentary investigation into the deal.

"This is the most stinking corruption scandal in this country. It is sacrilege for government to seek to make money out a disease that is killing people".

Although goverment, through the Ministry of Health has offered some explanation in a press release, the NDC communicator says it is lacks merit.

"So far, the response we have had from the Ministry of Health doesn't make sense. It contains several factual inaccuracies. That $10 price is not ex-factory price. It is the international market price according to the Russian government. There are facts to show that other goverments have purchased millions of doses of Sputnik V vaccines at less than $10, so why $19 for Ghana. Why the rip-off?
