Adwoa Safo, who is expected to appear before the Privileges Committee of Parliament, today Friday, May 27, to answer questions on her continues absence from Parliament without permissions, has stated that, she has not been served or invited by the Privileges Committee of Parliament.
According to her, her continues absence from parliament; and from her constituency, was due to the fact that, she was and is still taking care of her sick son in the United States of America.
Speaking on JoyNews, she said, “I have been doing a lot to take care of my children which the law requires, and as you know here in the foreign land, I have to comply with whatever I am directed to do, and until all that is sorted out, I have to do what I have to do and then I will return to my duties”.
Reacting to these comments, Lawyer Abraham Amaliba, a private legal practitioner has hailed Adwoa Safo for her explanations; saying “Its refreshing to hear from Adwoa Sarfo … Yesterday, she was clear; concise and I realized that, this is a person who is normal”.
Speaking in an interview on TV3, Lawyer Amaliba said, he will not blame Adwoa Safo for abandoning her constituency, and her ministerial functions for almost a year to attend to family issues abroad,
Lawyer Amaliba, who is also the Director of legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), added that, he blamed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who, in his view, did not manage the situations in the country well.
As it stands now, Adwoa Safo, (who is currently in United States of America), is still not in Ghana to appear before parliament, but the latest information from the ranking member on the Privileges Committee of Parliament, Hon Kweku George Ricketts-Hagan, revealed that, the committee could consider engaging with Sara Adwoa Safo through a virtual platform.
According to Honorable Ricketts-Hagan; "there is yet to be any formal communication to the committee about Adwoa Safo’s unavailability, to be physically present to engage with the committee; but “I’m sure that there are various ways [to get a response from her]… In this modern-day, there are various ways to do things. During the COVID era, we were doing meetings via Zoom, so if there is a tangible reason why the person cannot appear in person, I’m sure other arrangements can be made if the person can do this by Zoom or whatever means that is available”.
