Nana Addo addresses the nation: Update on funerals services.

President Nana Akufo Addo earlier tonight 25 July 2021,has presented his 26th covid-19 address to the nation. During the nation covid-19 update, the president out lined some few measures the government is putting in place to intensify the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic; and to prevent further spread.

The president; in his life address has placed a banned post-event reception services, and ordered that, funeral ceremonies should not exceed two hours of duration. According to him, “The COVID-19 Taskforce, which I chair, has recommended that a second look be taken at the protocols that have been put in place for the holding of funerals across the country”.


He added that, as part of recommendations made by the COVID-19 Task-force, The wearing of masks and observation of enhanced hygiene protocols, is also mandatory, while the duration for one-week funeral celebrations has been limited to just two hour.

Since Ghana confirmed its first six cases of COVID-19 Delta variants on June 22, 2021 among passengers arriving in the country, the number of cases have since been moving up; and the relevant agencies are still working very hard; taking the necessary steps to contain the spread.


In Ghana, the confirmed covid-19 cases as at 21 July 2021 stand at: total cases-101,170, active cases-4,094, recovered/discharged-94,347, dead- 821, severe- 26 and critical-15 cases. Also, over 400 new cases have been recorded in the country so far.

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA); earlier had revealed that, the current data available suggests, that the Ghana is witnessing its third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.


Some times past, the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital was not seeing new cases, but now, it is struggling to find ICU places for patients. The situation is not different from the Police Hospital, Ridge, and other facilities across the country.


According to the president, Funerals should not exceed 2-hours, whiles receptions are banned.
