National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has stated that the his party would push the Electoral Commission to make electoral reforms and amendments ahead of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections. He made this claim on Asempa FM today, Thursday 22nd April, 2021.
Mr Ampofo believes that unlike 2012 election petition, the 2020 election petition did not give clear directions and electoral reforms that need to be made to sanitize our electoral process. He said, "the Electoral Commission was not allowed to speak, how do know what went wrong?".
The NDC stalwart believe that the Regional Collation Centre should be abolished. "That animal called the Regional Collation Centre should abolished. We opposed it from day one. The Regional Collation Centre made it difficult for our representatives to reconcile figures from the constituencies", he opined.
Mr Ofosu Ampofo was the quizzed about why he and his party did not show up at the Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting yesterday. He replied by saying the Electoral Commission should put its house in order before calling for a review of the previous elections.
He said, " there are certain things that ought to be done be before we can do a review. The Electoral Commission needs help. They should involve Civil Service Organisations who can offer intellectual discourse. A serious review should be concerned about unit Committee elections in Nkoranza".
Chairman Ofosu Ampofo hinted that the National Democratic Congress has put up team that will look at the possible changes that should be made in our electoral process.
He also said that the National Democratic Congress is stronger, attractive and poised to capture political power in the next general election.
