Former Finance Minister Kwesi Botchwey has passed on

Professor Kwesi Botchwey, a former Finance Minister of Ghana has been reported dead.

He reportedly passed on 19th November, 2022, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where he was receiving medical treatment according to family sources.

Professor Kwesi Botchwey is the longest-serving finance minister. He served in the military era of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) from 1982 to 1991 and the constitutional period of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from 1992 to 1995.

He was appointed by the late Jerry John Rawlings to assist in stabilising Ghana's collapsed economy from 1982 to 1993.

He continued as Finance Minister in January 1993 when Ghana returned to democratic governance and served till 1995 before his then deputy, Kwame Peprah took over from him.

Born on 3rd September, 1944, he was 78 at the time of his death.

He attended senior high school at the Presbyterian Boys Senior High school in Ghana. He holds a LL.M from the University of Michigan Law School, a LL.B from the University of Ghana. He taught at the university of Zambia, university of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and the University of Ghana.
