The Overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom (Asantehene), Otumfuo Osei Tutu Il has served notice about the performance appraisal methods adopted by the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo through a statement of caution as part of his visit to the Manhyia Palace on Friday, October 1.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu Il cautioned President Nana Akuffo-Addo saying that he must be careful working with feedbacks he receives from some of his 'trusted' appointees and/or delegates to oversee specific projects the government is undertaking throughout the country.
According to the Asantehene, some of these appointees do not give the complete value and state of these projects and so working with such reports and feedbacks can tarnish his reputation and tag him as a bad president who is not working up to task. He said that some of them only give him information that they deem suitable to his hearing and not the entire framework of affairs.
He further cautioned President Akuffo-Addo to ensure that he gets first-hand information about the progress of his projects in the country. He stated for instance that if he pays a visit to the Kumasi airport where extension works are underway, he would see at first sight the true nature and progress of the work of the contractors and not base his jugements, comments and decisions on a mere hearsay.
"Your performance so far as president is very unprecedented, I am sure everyone knows that too. There has been some development in the Ashanti Region, to be specific, since you assumed power. However there are a few hitches in your governing style that you must stop if possible."
"I would you like to be abreast of the fact that individuals can be biased most of the time and can resort to the use of subjective attention. This is why you must avoid the absolute use of information that comes from some of your overseers of key development projects without any form of verification yourself. Some of them only give you a tip of the iceberg and not the entirety of the whole issues. This can tarnish your good reputation as a working President," Otumfuo Osei Tutu Il cautioned President Nana Akuffo-Addo at the Manhyia Palace.
The President is expected to continue his tour of the region on Saturday through to Monday, October 4. He will be inspecting major developmental projects including the Abuakwa-Tanoso stretch which is underway, and works on the extension of the Kumasi airport into an international airport by August, 2022.
