The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) has changed its name to National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) . The investigative body made this announcement in a press release.
The press release was signed by the Director-General of the Bureau. The statement is intended to inform Ghanaians about the change in name. The change takes effect immediately.
It is not clear as to what necessitated the change. However, the New abbreviations (NIB) will coincide with those of other institutions. For example there is National Investment Bank (NIB) and National Inspectorate (NIB) Board under Ghana Education Service.
The sudden change of name is in accordance with the Security and Intelligence Act 2020. (ACT 1030). The Bureau of National Investigations was founded in the year 1996.
It also remain to seen how Personnel from the Bureau will be deployed in the upcoming general elections.
