Keta Disaster: Afenyo Markins Eats The Humble Pie As He Apologises For Deception

Tuesday, 16th November 2021

It looks like politics cannot be possible without lies. Politicians have become synonymous to deception because those who choose to tell lies succeed in their political lives. This is the motivation for some in the politics. Those who remain truthful have their dreams shattered along the line.

About ten days ago, the people of Keta, Ketu and Anloga and their surroundings were hit by a disaster as tidal waves destroyed several homes and properties and claimed one life. The subject became topical in the country as NPP and NDC sought to blame each other for the disaster.

During the course of the blame game, the minority group in parliament tried to shift the goal post by attributing the disaster to sandwining at the coastal areas of these communities by community members. During a press briefing, the NPP MPs lead by Hon. Afenyo Markins displayed a picture he alleged was taken at Keta beech where sandwining was ongoing.

In the picture, one could see several trucks lined up to be loaded with sand for commercial purposes. Afenyo Markins told journalists journalits that was the cause of the disaster.

But the minority caucus lead by Nelson Rockson Defeamekpor desputed the claims by the majority. He told journalists that the said picture was not taken at Keta or any part of the coastal areas in the Volta region. He also slammed the majority for attributing tidal waves to sandwining. To him the disaster was as a result of rising sea level caused by climate change.

Well, fact check has proofed that the said picture is not coming from Ghana but Sierra Leone. Evans Mensah proofed this on live TV in the presence of the MP for ... The host of PM Express demonstrated during his late night show yesterday that the picture was taken at Dakar the capital of Senegal in 2013.

The seemingly embarassed MP had no choice but to apologise for deceiving the public. He didn't tell why he chose to tell lies except to say he was sorry for the unfortunate development.
