As a friend once said, John Dramani Mahama is not preventing anybody from contesting him, for the flag-bearership, but as Comrade Kwesi Pratt Jnr. rightfully said, at the end of the flag-bearership contest, we shall see their smoothness level. But the fact still remains that the timing for the discussions and the debates surrounding who leads the National Democratic Congress (NDC), comes elections 2024 is very wrong.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC), just like any other political party in Ghana, is yet to go through all the processes involved in electing its leaders, but the race is getting hotter than imagined. Members of the NDC has started throwing their supports to who they think, is best fit to lead the party comes election 2024 against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Ahead of the primaries, which are yet to be planned, some names have already been spotted circulating on social media, as the most qualified and the best bet to lead the NDC. These names include Former President John Dramani Mahama, Kwabena Dufuo, Goose Tano, Sylvester Mensah, Dr. Spio Gabbrah, and Joshua Alabi.
Whiles some members of the party thinks the former presidential candidate John Mahama is the most qualified, and must be retained, other also think otherwise.
Yaw Boateng Gyan, the former National Organizer of the NDC is one of those party executives who thinks John Mahama must give way to others to lead the party.
Speaking on an interview on the morning show of Okay FM, Mr. Yaw Boateng Gyan said, he would support the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Kwabena Dufour if he joins the Flagbearship race of the NDC. According to him, Dr. Dufour is his friend so he cannot turn his back against him in any competition.
Among those who have massively thrown their support the former president is Mr. Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye.
According to Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, who was the former NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for the Odododiodoo Constituency, he has predicted a massive defeat for any member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who contests the flagbearership position of the party against John Mahama ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on Citi TV’s programe, ‘Face to Face’, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye said he’s confident John Mahama will be massively endorsed by the party executives as their flagbearer for the 2024 elections.
In his speech, Nii Lantey said, “John Mahama is our next candidate. We are going to endorse unanimously him as our candidate in the next congress. Anyone who will be courageous enough to come forward will not have more than 1%”.
In addition, the Ashanti Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has also massively thrown their support for the former president and the presidential candidate of the party, John Dramani Mahama, comes 2024 elections. The group stressed that, it’s either H.E. John Mahama or no one else.
What are your views? Who among the list (Former President John Dramani Mahama, Kwabena Dufuo, Goose Tano, Sylvester Mensah, Dr. Spio Gabbrah, and Joshua Alabi); do you think will be a disaster for the NPP comes elections 2024?
