Today marks the third day of the funeral rites of the late Hajia Mahamudu Bawumia. It is being marked in Walewale and present at the ceremony are prominent Imams and Islamic leaders both in the country and abroad. Also in attendance are political leaders of the country, from both the ruling and opposition parties.

One of the grandchildren of the deceased Sumaya was dressed in the clothes of the deceased, Hajia Mahamadu and she carried her watch, her newspapers and radio set at the funeral. She explained to Citi TV reporters the significance of what she did.

She said this is because she is now in charge of the house and she is now the Vice President's mother. She was dressed in the deceased clothing from the veil on her head all through to her sandals. Sumaya boldly claimed that she is the new "Maame" of the house as the mother of the Vice President was affectionately called.
