That's the most irresponsible statement; Pratt reacts to Mensah Bonsu's comments on the Speaker

Mr. Kwesi Pratt Junior, the managing editor of the Insight Newspaper has taken a swipe at the majority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu over a statement he made in a press conference his party organized to react to the rejection of the 2022 budget after they ( the majority caucus) staged a walkout. In the press conference, Honourable Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu pointed out that, the rejection of the budget is grounded in illegality and should be treated with all the contempt it deserves. He further went on to say in due time, a "properly" constituted house that will not be headed by Right Honourable Alban Bagbin, will decide on the budget.

"That whole process was unconstitutional, as far as we are concerned, it is null and void and has no binding effect on anybody. The motion on the budget as far as we are concerned has not been pronounced on by Parliament and it is still standing in the name of the Finance Minister and in the fullness of time, a properly constituted house, not the one presided over by the Right Honourable Speaker will make the decision", the majority leader stated.

Mr. Kwesi Pratt Junior, who was speaking on the Alhaji and Alhaji Show on Pan Africa TV, today, November 27, interpreted the statement of the majority leader to mean removing the Speaker from office. He, therefore, described what Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu said as a terrible and the most irresponsible statement to make. He asserted that the processes of removing a Speaker of Parliament are clearly spelled out, and hence the majority caucus cannot be threatening to remove the Speaker and impose theirs on Parliament.

"That's a terrible thing to say. The rules for removing the Speaker are clear. The so-called majority group cannot be threatening to remove the Speaker, they cannot be threatening to impose their own Speaker on Parliament. That's the most irresponsible statement", he said.
