I Never Declared Support for Alan Over Bawumia, Osaafo Maafo Cries Out

Senior Presidential Advisor, Yaw Osaafo Maafo, has distanced himself from a statement purported to have been made by him indicating his support for Trade Minister, Alan Kyeremanten, against Vice President, Dr. Mahamud Bawumia, in race for the flagbearership position of the New Patriotic Party ahead of the 2024 elections. A circulation currently making waves on social media platforms quoted Mr. Osarfo Marfo as saying: "Bawumia has done a lot for the NPP and i acknowledge that, but the NPP rewards long service. Most Importantly, the support base of the NPP is mainly in Akan constituencies and regions. Therefore, i support Alan Kyeremanteng to lead the NPP into 2024 elections."

But the former senior Minister's office has now in a strong - worded statement distanced him from the allege comments and urged the public to disregard it, saying the former Finance Minster under the Kuffuor's administration has never made any such remarks described among others as misguided and ethnocentric.

"With reference to the said circulation, we emphasise that Hon. Osaafo Maafo has never uttered such "irresponsible, misguided, tribalistic and ethnocentric" statement either in public or private directly or indirectly and has no cause to do so," the statement said.

Mr. Osaafo Maafo is currently in the United Arab Emirates at the invitation of the Global Business Forum Africa 2021, during which he launched Ghana's participation in the Dubai 2020 EXPO.
