Only the Tribal King of Akyem Abuakwa, also known as Okyehene, has the title Okyehene (Okyeman). After the Ashanti Kingdom, the Akyem Kingdom is Ghana's second most dominant kingdom. The Okyehene is also known as Kwaebibiremhene, which means "dense forest field" Many clans (Abusua) exist, including Oyoko, Aduana, Agona, Asakyire, Bretuo, and Ekuona. However, the Okyehene is regarded as the Asona clan's head (Asona Piesie).

The new incumbent, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin, ascended the throne on October 4th, 1999. Nana Yaw Boakye and Odehye Abena Akoto welcomed him into the world on October 10, 1952. He is the 35th King of Akyem Abuakwa at the moment.
