Meet The Daughter of Late Asantehene Opoku Ware II who is Ghana's First Female Ambassador to Russia.


From a royal Ashanti background, Her Excellency Oheneba Dr. Lesley Akyaa Opoku Ware is the daughter of late Asantehene Otumfour Opoku Ware II, who reigned for 29 years from 1970 to 1999, preceding the current Asantehene.

Dr. Akyaa Opoku Ware graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland (RCSI) in 1981. She then worked after her qualification in London Teaching Hospitals where she started as a junior house officer and then got married to a dentist who later transitioned into the oil and gas industry.

In 2010 she relocated to Ghana after working in London for many years. In London, she obtained her General Practice (GP) Qualification as a family physician in 2003 from the Royal College of General Practitioners, UK.



Whiles in Ghana, she received her registration from the Ghana Medical and Dental Practice Board in 2013 as a family physician specialist and has also worked at the Ghana Health Service before.

HE. Dr. Opoku Ware also held positions including Deputy Chair of the Board of Trustees, Head of State State Awards (Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme, 2014 - 2018), Managing Director of Euracare Medical Center in Accra which she established, Chairman of Petronia City Developments (2012-2015) and others.



In 2017, she was appointed as Ghana's first female ambassador, head of mission to the Russian Federation and later presented her credentials to the Russian leader as seen above in the photo.



Her Excellency Dr. Opoku Ware is also concurrently accredited to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Moldova. As Ambassador Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Armenia as seen above, she was presenting her credentials to the Armenian leader but resident in Moscow.


She is blessed with 5 children.
