
The chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has extended his profound condolences to the family of former Mali president, HE Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, and the people of Mali.
“On behalf of the people of Ghana and the ECOWAS Community, and my own behalf, I extend deep condolences to you, the people of Mali, his widow and family”, the statement said.
He noted that the late former President will be remembered as a respected Statesman of Mali and the ECOWAS region. His demise is a sad day for the people of Mali and the ECOWAS Community.
The former president died on Sunday, January 16, 2022, at the age of 76 at his residence in Bamako, reports say but the cause of the death was not relayed.
He ascended the office of presidency in 2013 and remained in office until he was toppled by the military on August 18, 2020, France 24 reports.
