Bagbin On Another Medical Trip To Dubai

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has returned to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for another medical review.

He made his first medical trip to the United Arab Emirates on November 27, 2021 and he was accompanied on that trip by his wife, Mrs.

Alice Adjua Yornas, Dr. Prince Kofi Pambo, Head of Parliamentary Clinic, the Speaker’s Secretary, and his aide.

He left Accra to the UAE on January 7, 2022 and would be back in the country on Sunday, January 23, 2022, two clear days ahead of the resumption of the sitting of parliament.

In his letter informing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo about his medical trip, Speaker Bagbin wrote; “I am writing to inform you of my absence from Ghana from Friday, 7th January 2022 till Sunday, 23rd January 2022 in order to honour an appointment for a medical review in the United Arab Emirates”, the letter mentioned.

The Speaker in the letter also informed the president that, Parliament will resume its sitting for this year on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.”

He also informed the President that as part of measures to contain and stop the spread of Covid-19 within the parliamentary precincts, particularly in the wake of the spike in infections as well as the new wave of the Omicron variant of the disease, Parliament would undertake a Covid-19 booster vaccination exercise before the resumption of the parliamentary sitting.

The speaker had earlier advised against politicizing his health and that of other office-holders.

“The Office will advise that the health issues of the Speaker and that of office-bearers be not politicized, as anybody could be taken ill at any time.

It is an undeniable fact that the membership of the House is one whole group with a common agenda and destiny,” a statement issued by his office said.
