President Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed Ken Ofori-Atta who is the Finance Minister, to act as caretaker minister at the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
The appointment of the embattled minister was confirmed in a release to acknowledge the resignation of the Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen which has been reported to have been tendered in on Thursday, January 5, 2023.
A press release on January 6, signed by the Director of Communications at the Office of the President, Eugene Arhin, indicated that, “The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Friday, 6th January 2023, accepted the resignation from office of Mr. Alan Kyeremanten as Minister for Trade and Industry.”
According to the release, the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta has been delegated to head the Ministry of Trade and Industry until a substantive minister is appointed to head the vacant ministry.
“The President has asked the Minister for Finance, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, to act as caretaker Minister at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, until a substantive appointment is made” the statement concluded.

News of Mr. Kyeremanten vacating the ministry went viral in the early hours of Friday, January 6, 2023 with reports stating that, there was a meeting at the Jubilee House to make his intentions known officially to the President.
Meanwhile, Mr Alan Kyeremanten is tipped to contest the position of the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in their upcoming presidential candidate election for the 2024 general elections.
