Economic watchers in the country have observed that until the main two strongest political parties in the country throw in the towel and come together to fix the challenges confronting the country, foreigners will soon take over the country by taking advantage of the political lineniency in the society.
It is against this background that the Chairman of the Ghana Transport Union at Kumasi Alabar in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Issah Soldier has added his voice to the calls on the two mainstream political parties in the country to bury their political differences, smoke peace pipe and address the illness confronting the country before foreigners take advantage of their political attitudes to overtake the administration of the country.
Speaking to the correspondent in reaction to the rising trend of armed robbery cases along the Tamale-Buipe highway leading to the robbers to attack drivers and passengers at gun point and ransack them of which some loose their lives, chairman Soldier linked the incidents to the lack of applying the state mechanism to check the transport sector to ensure safety for both drivers and passengers as well.
He said as commercial transport operator and chairman managing over twenty transport unions on the Kumasi,/Tamale-Buipe highway, he has experienced several robbery attacks on drivers and passengers, yet police on the various check points fail to arrest and bring offenders to book.
Alhaji Issah Soldier alleged that some greedy policemen whose aims are to get rich quick play an effective roles in the robbery operations, and to reverse the situation, called for constitutional amendment where personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces would be given the mandate to help check highway robbers.
This is because soldiers are more disciplined and cannot be influenced by external source to underrate their professional ethics to the disadvantage of the country..
The transporter hinted that in every robbery cases in the country, foreigners are seen playing a leading role of about 70 percent, and asked if proper measures are put in place, can these aliens have the rights to invade the country to advance their wicked intentions and go scot free?.
Alhaji Soldier intimated that instead of both the Npp and Ndc should stay focused and find antidotes to solve the challenges confronting the country, the two parties rather prefer engaging their sympathizers in dirty politics, politics of lies, hatred, bribery and corruption, less recognition to ones good opinion whilst the country continue to sink into oblivion.
The chairman noted that the attitudes of the politicians have given the aliens in the country so much freedom to such an extent that they commit offences and go scot free, insisting that since prevention is better than cure, it is prudent our politicians should be wised up before the foreigners take over the country.
Alhaji Issah Soldier further humbly appealed to the newly appointed Inspector General of Police, COP George Akuffo Dampare and his able officers to come out with measures that could discourage highway robberies to ensure safety of the drivers and passengers in the country at all times.
