John Dramani Mahama, a former president, expressed astonishment at the passing of Dr. Kwesi Botchwey, a former finance minister.

In a Facebook post in memory of the late finance minister, Mr. Mahama recalled dancing to the hit dance tune "Buga" by Nigerian singer Kizz Daniel at Dr. Botchwey's 78th birthday celebration.

Dr. Botchwey had dutifully served his "God, country, and the NDC party, and now it was time to have a rest," Mr. Mahama continued.

On Saturday, November 19, 2022, Dr. Botchwey passed away at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. He was 78 years old.

Dr. Botchwey initially held the position of finance minister from 1982 until 1991, during the military administration of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), and later in the protected time of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) from 1992 to 1995.

He was Ghana's longest-serving finance serve.
When Kwesi Botwe was born in 1925, in Aburi, Akuapim South, Eastern, Ghana, his father, Kofi Quenny, was 37 and his mother, Awo Akonobea, was 36.
