The maiden edition of finals of Otumfor Community Reading Challenge after 8 months of competitive challenges in 60 communities, through to the round of 60, quarter finals and semi finals came off last Friday, 15th October 2021 at Afia Kobi's park, Manhyia Palace in the Ashanti region.
The Grand Finals of the Otumfuo Community Challenge at the Afia Kobi Memorial Park, Manhyia Palace - Kumasi was graced by the Hon. Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, Minister of Education and Member of Parliament of Bosomtwe constituency, Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Mary Owusu Achiaw, Hon. Patricia Appiagyei, MP for Asokwa Constituency, Hon. Akwasi Kondadu MP for Manhyia North, Hon. Richmond Agyenim Boateng, Kwadaso MCE, Metro Director of Education and Municipal Education Directors from all representing communities.
The occasion chaired by his royal Majesty Otumfor Osei Tutu II, was to crown the very best of the best in the first edition of the competition instituted by the King himself to improve reading and the educational standards among his people.
At the occasion, the Minister Of Education, Hon. Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum said that he has started the 'Re-Imagining of our Education' towards the transformational agenda of the President, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. " Through such initiatives, our language will continue to reign supreme ". He urged our traditional authorities to emulate this initiatie.
George Dame, a student of Anomangye M/A Junior High School who also represented the Anomangye community among the the other 59 communities in the competition won the grand price of the prestigeous occasion.
The Otumfor Community Reading Challenge winner, George Dame, walked away with a trophy, a money price of 5000 GHC and a laptop from the Otumfuo Osei Tutu Foundation. Not only that he received a slew of other prizes from the program's sponsors.
