Rt. Hon Alban Bagbin has recently replied to certain allegations that have been levelled against him. For some people, the honourable speaker is trying to make things very hard for the Nana Akufo-Addo-led administration and the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Some people allege that it's because he is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that's why he behaves the way he does.
Rt. Hon Alban Bagbin has debunked all these allegations and has stated that he does not bend the laws to favour anyone. For him, he is the speaker of Parliament, and has to make sure the standing orders of Parliament are obeyed. Rt. Hon Alban Bagbin says he does not bend the laws to favour anyone.
He explained that the House would run smoothly if only the two main political parties (NPP and NDC) could meet and discuss.
"I am the speaker, I don’t take part in the decisions but it is my duty to enforce the rules and the law and in trying to do this definitely in a country that is used to tumultuous majoritarian government will definitely meet resistance but these are the problems of change and transformation. I think that the only way as he himself said was to get the two sides to consult more, to dialogue, to cooperate with each other, to compromise, to collaborate and to achieve consensus".
