I Am A Lawyer And I Know You Cannot DO That To Her: Freddie Blay Jumps To The Defense Of Adwoa Safo

The former National Chairman for the New Patriotic Party, Chairman Freddie Blay, has mounted a spirited defence for the embattled Dome Kwabenya lawmaker, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo. Chairman Freddie Blay revealed that he had done some groundwork and from what he has discovered, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo has been treated unfairly.

Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin will announce the fate of Sarah Adwoa Sarfo after the break and Chairman Freddie Blay has stated emphatically that what Speaker Bagbin is set to do is in accordance with parliament's rules and standing order, but Adwoa Sarfo must still be heard. He said that in his capacity as a lawyer.

“It is, according to the rules in Parliament, but there’s one cardinal rule that’s beyond Parliament. It is even beyond the constitution, you need to give her a hearing. That hasn’t been done from what I gather. You cannot just say that you want to remove someone from her seat when you have not heard her. As a lawyer, it is not right and I will not agree with this stance.”, he explained.

Freddie Blay explained that although he does not know the reason behind Sarah Adwoa Sarfo's absence, he still insists that she must be given the opportunity to speak or defend herself. And after that, Parliament can pass their judgement.

“She’s been out of the country for health reasons or whatever reasons, I can’t tell. But I’m saying that if she’s given the opportunity to avail herself and make her case then based on that one could pass judgement.”

Some Ghanaians have wondered why all of a sudden, Freddie Blay is defending Adwoa Sarfo. They wondered where he was when Nana Addo decided to revoke her appointment as Gender Minister. Some people wondered if Freddie Blay was afraid that Sarah Adwoa Sarfo will leak to Ghanaians, some secrets in the New Patriotic Party.
