Fuel price hikes; Ghanaians cannot wait to vote the NPP out of government; NDC MP declares

Member of Parliament for the Jirapa Constituency, Cletus Asiedu Dapilah has said Ghanaians cannot wait to vote the New Patriotic Party out of government due to what he described as hardships the Ghanaian people are going through under Nana Addo's government. He said this in reaction to the recent hike in fuel prices. Speaking on Pan Africa TV Hot News Show ( on October 18), he said, the President has not done enough for the Ghanaian worker to be able to cope with the general cost of goods and services that the increase in fuel prices usually comes with.

He stressed that individuals and industries are suffocating under taxes such as sanitation taxes that are charged on fuel. He also bemoaned the current 4% salary increment for public sector workers, saying it is woefully inadequate.

The Jirapa lawmaker also criticized the New Patriotic Party for constantly taking a swipe at the National Democratic Congress anytime the was an increase in fuel prices during the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama government. He said the New Patriotic Party had used fuel prices as a campaign message, meanwhile, they have done worse so long as fuel prices are concerned. He cited the comment made by the then-running mate of the New Patriotic Party, Mahamadu Bawumia in 2015, describing an increase in fuel prices by John Dramani Mahama as insensitive.

According to Cletus Asiedu, the hikes in fuel prices is a burden not only for individuals but businesses as well. He expressed that Ghanaians wish elections are held in earnest so they will vote the New Patriotic Party out of government.
