Ofori Atta Humbled At Last, Removes Agyapa, Reduces E-levy In A New Budget

Tuesday, 30th November 2021

The finance minister is reportedly presenting a revised version of 2022 budget to parliament later today. This was after the first one was rejected by NDC led MPs on Friday.

According to a social media activist and musician Kwame Obeng Asare aka A Plus, the new budget will see major differences from the the old one. He said his information had it that, the new budget does not have the Agyapa Royalty agreement. In addition, the government has reduced the Electronic transaction tax from 1.75% to 1% and the benchmark increased to GHC 300.00. A Plus announced this on his Facebook page this afternoon intercepted by CitizenOne.

A Plus added that provisions has been made for sea defense at Keta as well as victims of the disaster as requested by the minority.

"Information I have received from close sources in the NPP; after making all the noise that the budget has not been rejected or cannot be rejected or the rejection is unconstitutional, they have sent this proposal to the minority.

1. Provision has been made for the Tidal waves and victims in the budget.

2. E levy has been reduced to 1% starting from 300 Ghana", he wrote.

It will be recalled that when the budget for 2022 was rejected, the ruling NPP started pushing tantrum insisting that the Agyenkwa Budget was still before the house.

But the NDC cautioned that if the government refused to soften it's stance, the minority will continue to hold it at ransom. The caucus issued a five pointer indicators it will want to see in a future budget before it approves same. Three of them were non negotiable.

These are;

Suspension of the implementation of Electronic transaction tax, the removal of Agyapa Royalty agreement and a provision for the construction of sea defense at Keta as well as relief items for victims of the recent disaster.

CitizenOne is in parliament and will bring followers up to minute update on this development.
