Parade protest

The Police Can Arrest Me If I Broke Any Law – Xavier Sosu Boldly Speaks

The People of Madina under th leadership of Hon. Francis Xavier Sosu today, Monday, October 25, 2021 staged a demonstration against the state of poor roads in their constituency. It was a large gathering as one electoral area out of 15 in Madina massed up and walked to protest the government’s neglect of roads in the country. In an era where the government has declared a second year of roads, many had expected that Madina which is close to Accra should have better roads.

The protest march nearly turned chaotic as the MP was nearly arrested. It took the demonstrators to save the MP from the arrest as the numbers were too many for the police personnel present. According to Xavier he wanted to submit to the police arrest but things would have turned bloody if he had allowed himself to be arrested.

The MP explained on Ekosii Sen that he had alerted the Police and sought permission and so he felt appalled at what happened and why the police wanted to arrest him. He added that when the arrest failed, he was notified that the Police Commander wanted to talk to him, an invitation he failed to heed. The calm MP said he refused the invitation because he had a meeting in Parliament at 11am and as such could not waste time on an event he had already sought clearance for.

I am an MP and I will not be intimidated. I just stand for the truth” Xavier said. He concluded that he felt baffled that contracts are not given to MPs to help develop their constituents. According to him the more they remain silent the more the people suffer as a result of roads. The MP charged that any arrest of a sitting MP first has to go to Parliament and that was no followed. He called on the Police to do the right thing if they still feel he erred.
