We will Not Tolerate Any IMF Conditionality That Will Affect Us Negatively - UTAG to Government

Upon the economic hardship in the country and the decision of the government to go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), has warned that it will not tolerate any conditionalities from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), that will disadvantage its members.

In a statement released by the UTAG, it has threatened that they will not tolerate any advice from the IMF if it affects the agreement between the union and the government negatively.

“We wish to state that the Government of Ghana must ensure that the conditions after the support will not disadvantage the Conditions of Service of Labour Unions, including UTAG. In particular, UTAG would not tolerate any IMF conditionality that negatively affects the existing agreements between Government and UTAG to improve the Conditions of Service of our members”. Part of the statement read.

They also urge the government to take the opportunity of going to the IMF to make use of local experts to support development.

Meanwhile, the teachers union is on strike following the condition of service.
