Ken Ofori-Atta has lost credibility; Akufo-Addo should replace him, according to Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has urged President Akufo-Addo to replace his Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, as soon as possible with someone more capable and confident who can work relentlessly to improve the nation's prospects.

He claims that because he oversaw "the devastating collapse of the economy," Mr. Ofori-Atta has already lost his reputation, trust, and confidence.

The Finance Minister shouldn't be included in the group of negotiators asking the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for financial assistance, he stressed. In order for the President to reassemble the Economic Management Team, the Vice President must also be removed of his duties as the team's chair due to his clear failings.

He stated, "We must learn from this incident and refrain from cheap economic politics that can only produce the tragic results that have brought us here.

The Information Ministry reported on Friday, July 1, that President Akufo-Addo and Kristalina Georgieva, the head of the IMF, had already spoken about the rescue plan.

In response, Mr. Mahama said on Facebook that the Fund should be supplied with a thorough homegrown program for support.

"Although late, it should represent a significant step in the direction of solving the dismal economic situation that has left Ghanaians languishing in extreme sorrow and poverty.

In order to achieve the best possible set of measures with the Fund, the former president advised assembling a team of qualified and competent negotiators.
