The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo has been in the news over his latest statement and response to the Chief of Aflao which has received massive public attention. The President is on record to have scoffed the Chief after he (Torgbui Fiti) made an appeal for completion of a school block.
Recall, the Chief in an interview was captured giving a 3 months ultimatum to the Minister of Education to complete the abandoned E-block facility which has been left unattended to in the last 5 years. According to the Chief, the project is 90% complete, but completion date is long overdue.
However, the President in response rubbished the ultimatum, calling on the Chief to complete it himself. His comments have received mixed reactions as NPP sympathisers have jumped to his defense and the opposition NDC have also chastised him. Many other Ghanaian political analysts have also shared divergent views over the matter, with some calling on the President to render an apology to the Chief.
Veteran Ghanaian actor now turned politician who contested for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency seat, John Dumelo has reacted to the brouaha with a surprising and humane gesture. The aspiring politician has also registered his resentment over the statement from the President.
In a post sighted on his official Facebook page, he has promised to support the Chief of Aflao, Nana Torgbui Fiti after he called for assistance from the President to complete an abandoned classroom blocks in his community. He shares the belief that traditional authorities are the custodians of our land, and should be respected and supported in all manners.
He wrote, "If the president is saying that Torgbui Fiti should complete it himself, no problem. I will donate 100 bags of cement or desks to the paramount Chief to start the completion process."
