Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has warned the party's Ashanti Region Chairman to maintain composure in the face of internal elections. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, and 15 other regional chairmen made an explicit declaration of support for a candidate, which was improper, according to the member of parliament from the Assin Central Constituency.
In an interview with Media General's Eric Mawuena Egbeta on Sunday, July 17, he stated, "The signal is clear to every senior member of the party not to come out and raise hands."
"Where are the 16 chairmen, in addition to the Central Regional Chairman and the 15 chairmen? Because they were unable to make a decision for the party, they ought to feel ashamed of themselves. Wontumi, my brother, needs to calm down. He needs to calm down because he is not the host of this party. He completely doesn't. He needs to calm down.
He described how Chairman Wontumi bribed the other chairmen to show their support for select candidates by raising their hands in the air. "They had all felt embarrassed. Anywhere, all the chairmen would have resigned.
These thoughts may have been echoed by NPP firebrand Ken Agyapong following the selection of Justin Kodua Frimpong as the party's general secretary. Although official results have not yet been released, the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) director's supporters are already celebrating the outcome.
