Jean Adukwei Mensa is the current Electoral Commission boss. She was appointed by President Akufo-Addo and replaced Charlotte Osei as the head of the election body. Ever since her appointment she has received so much criticism especially from the opposition National Democratic Congress. The party since last year feared she will manipulate the elections in favor of the New Patriotic Party.
Despite the criticisms, she was able to brace the storm and steer a successful voters’ registration process through a torrid Covid-19 season. She went ahead to conduct a relatively successful election. After that she had to endure public ridicule and scorn and undergo an election petition. Though she presented a witness statement she never testified much to the anger of supporters of the NDC.
Jean Mensa after nominations were received by Glitz Africa is set to be awarded with the Ghana Woman of the Year Award for Excellence in Public Service. This is to commend her for steering of the country’s election body through a terrible Covid-19 period. Other honorees include, Abena Osei Poku (MD, ABSA- Corporate Personality), Mercy Tagoe (Coach of the Black Queens – Excellence in Sports), Georgina Wood (Former Chief Justice- Lifetime Award), Akofa Edjeani Asiedu (Veteran actress – Excellence in Sport) among other dignitaries.
The day of celebration will happen on August 1, 2021 at 5pm at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel. Congratulations in advance to Jean Adukwei Mensa.
