The Supreme Court has in a majority 5-2 decision ruled that Assin North MP James Gyakye Quayson can no longer perform Parliamentary duties. This is as a background to the case filed against Hon. James Gyakye Quayson of having dual citizenship (owing allegiance to Canada) and hence must be stopped from being an MP.
Lawyers for the MP led by Tsatsu Tsikata defended his client as much as he could but The Supreme Court on Wednesday, April 13, said the Mp should no longer hold himself as Mp or present himself in Parliament.
Following the verdict, many people has taken to social media on Joy FM official Facebook page to react.
Some believed that it is because of Kan Dapaah recent comment to the judiciary that was why the verdict wasn't unanimous, but 5-2.
Others believe that, the Electoral commission should have disqualify Hon. James Gyakye from contesting in the first place.
The Minority in Parliament is yet to speak about this verdict.
