Corruption in Ghana exists in any government, even though it has been the toughest issue to deal with, some few African leaders never give up hope in fighting against this destructive chronic problem. One of them was the former Ghanaian leader, late John Atta Mills.
The impact of corruption in Ghana is so strong because politicians and government workers have taken the weak judiciary system and leadership as opportunities to commit fraud and theft with impunity.
A serious government convinced to fight against corruption should set a good example, but the NPP government protects and keeps politicians seriously involved in corruption scandals in its administration. Is this the fight against corruption the government wants us to believe?
One of the places where corruption has increased rapidly affecting businessmen, traders, and Ghanaians in the Diaspora, are the harbours, especially, the Tema habour.
In the time of the late John Atta Mills, this problem exists, therefore, he went to the Tema port to investigate, this is something despite the increase of corruption at the ports, Nana Akufo Addo has failed to do.
I can remember vividly remember a businessman describing the hopeless situation at the port, accusing Ghanaian leaders of taking the harbours as their "Cocoa farms," to enrich themselves, at the expense of sufferers."
That particular article entitled ‘Ghaspora TV Discusses About Corruption At Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority,’ was published by ModernGhana news on September 16, 2020.
Even though that article was written after watching the program on local television in Belgium, as usual, I was attacked: Reference:
We have a leader called Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, who thinks leadership is only to be a president of a country, escorted by the police wherever you go, and travel in luxurious jets. He never even bothered to investigate corruption at the ports.
My second article about corruption at the harbours, published on November 11, 2021, entitled “IGP Dampare, I am confident you’ll stop the chronic crime taking place daily at the harbors,” revealed the sad story of a businessman. The man appeared on Captain Smart Onua TV to narrate how both his vehicles Hummer and Sprinter truck, were sold at auction even though he has paid the duties.

It’s sheer wickedness for someone who has toiled in Europe to purchase a Hummer and Sprinter Pickup truck into Ghana for corrupt custom officials to capitalize on the coronavirus situation in the country to sell his vehicles at auction at a cheap price to unknown buyers.
The president from time to time convinces Ghanaians that he cares about them but he doesn’t. If Akufo Addo really cares about the problems Ghanaians, including those in the Diaspora are facing, he would have long gone or ordered the minister in charge of the ports and harbours to start an investigation immediately but nothing has been done about it.
Now another man has appeared on Captain Smart Onua TV again but this time, to reveal how a customs officer stole a car from the port, evaded the payment of customs duty, and prepared fictitious documents to own the car. How can such crimes take place in Ghana without the law reacting to that?
What kind of country is Ghana that weak leadership has generated corruption and crime throughout the country with impunity? All these crimes are taking place daily, yet nobody cares and if anyone writes about them, he will be attacked, called anti-NPP, or if possible, be killed.
If the president wants Ghanaians to beg him before doing his job, then I will be the first person to beg him to stop that massive corruption at the habours because the problem has overflowed its banks.
Kwame Nkrumah said "Action without thought is empty. Thought without action is blind, therefore if Nana Akufo Addo claims he is fighting against corruption, he should follow the steps of former President John Atta Mills.
