Gbagbo Shook My Hand, Tapped Me And Said That I'm A Great Ghanaian And A Great African - Dr. Pelpuo

The former Ivorian President, Koudou Laurent Gbagbo, when launching his new political party in Abidjan in Cote D'Ivoire, reignited the ideas of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and reportedly said that if we had listened to Nkrumah, Africa would not be in this mess.

Reacting to the statement by Laurent Gbagbo on 'Good Morning Africa' on Pan Africa television, the Member of Parliament for the Wa Central Constituency, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Alhassan Pelpuo, recalled that when Ghana won the under-20 FIFA World Cup in Egypt, Laurent Gbagbo shook his hand, tapped him, and told him that he is a great Ghanaian and a great African.

According to Dr. Abdul-Rashid Alhassan Pelpuo, it is refreshing for him that Laurent Gbagbo has realized the need to go Nkrumaist, although he should have realized it long ago.

Dr. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo indicated that he remembers very well the first time he had a handshake with Laurent Bagho when Ghana won the under-20 FIFA World Cup in Egypt. He could tell that Laurent Gbagbo had this concept of an African personality long ago, and he also admired Ghana long before this time.

"He said that it is Ghana that won, but the victory is for all Africa. He sponsored an airlift of myself, the team leadership, and all the players to Cote D'Ivoire, and When I had a handshake with him, he taped me and said you are a great Ghanaian and a great African, and that we are all Africans, so what we have done is for all Africans."

He revealed that Laurent Gbagbo told him that what the Ghana team has done is for Africa as a whole, and not just for Ghana. That is why he has invited them all to have a handshake with the team and to tell them that they are happy with what Ghana has done for Africa in Egypt.

"So, I saw this man long ago as a person who is thinking beyond Cote D'Ivoire, but for reasons of wanting to win the political seat in his country, he wanted to exclude Alassane Ouattara, and so he embarked on the journey of becoming a full Ivorian in flesh and blood which was contrary to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's perspective for an African."

Dr. Abdul-Rashid Alhassan Pelpuo added that he believes the current advocacy of Laurent Gbagbo is in the right perspective and that majority of Ghanaians will be elated to hear him say that especially, for those who believe in Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's spirit of uniting Africa.
