Where Were You In 1991 When I Was Doing Politics? – Ofori Atta Tells NDC MP

One of the main criticisms that have engulfed the Akufo-Addo government has been the issue of family and friends. Before Akufo-Addo came to power in 2017 he spoke against the nepotism that was within the erstwhile Mahama government. Many felt the that President Akufo-Addo will be different but his government has also been attacked for being a government full of friends and family of the President.

Murtala Mohammed while speaking on the government’s family and friends’ tendencies mentioned that a clear example of the family and friends’ government was his fellow panelist in the studio. In the studio was Nana Fredua Ofori Atta, the Board Chairman of the National Theatre According to Murtala, Fredua would not have been holding the power he wields if he wasn’t related to Akufo-Addo.

This comment didn’t go well with Nana who mentioned that he started public political activism in 1991 when Murtala was no were near the NDC. He mentioned that it was it was disrespectful for Murtala to say he didn’t deserve to have been received any appointment. He explained that even when he was in school outside the country, he was still involved in politics in Ghana.

“He referred to me in his comment about family and friends. I don’t know when he started his public politics. You are disrespecting me by saying that. If not for anything, you should consider my activism. I wasn’t appointed because I was family. When I got to public politics in 1991, where were you? So don’t disrespect me” Nana Fredua said

Murtala however wasn’t ready to let the matter slide. He boldly stated that there were a lot of NPP activists so how come Nana Fredua Ofori Atta was appointed for his zeal and passion.
