The New Patriotic Party (NPP) after winning re-election, has just started its second term in Office as the ruling party; and even though the President has not finish with his Ministerial appointments, some party faithful have already started campaigning for their preferred candidates to lead the party for the election 2024 (Mr. Alan Kyeremanten- the Minister for trade, and Dr. Bawumia-the Vice President).
Among the arguments as to who best fit… to lead the party come 2024, some party faithful believes that, it is time for Alan Kyeremanten to lead the party, since he is the suitable next in line, and an elderly in the party. Others also think Dr. Bawumia, as the current Vice President has proven to be the only viable candidate of the party, who is capable of securing them another victory especially against former president Mahama.
The fact is, as at now…the timing is wrong. The time for campaigning for Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, or former Minister of Trades and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten as the party’s next flag bearer is very wrong, and the NPP must be very cautious.
The New Patriotic party (NPP), must note that, the victory of the party in the next 2024 elections; for now, will now depend on the issues of these Bawumia and Alan faction…but will largely depends on the performance of the party in government, and so these early campaigns for a next Flag bearer of the party will do more harm than good to the party.
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Leadership must rise, and put a stop to these early campaigns for the next flagbearership at this time; or else… taking an early positions like this, will bring fragmentation and will also disintegrate the party completely.
In the normal analysis, the ordinary Ghanaian’s choice of an NPP candidate for election 2024 will depend on the performances of President Nana Addo and his Government.
What the New Patriotic Party (NPP) must be concentrating on now… as a party in government, is working towards uniting Ghanaians, supporting the President to complete his second term with great success, and learning from the 2020 parliamentary election, where the party lost many of their parliamentary seats; and also, they must be focusing on how to mend cracks in the party rather than thinking of who lead the party to victory 2024.
Some political experts have also argued that, early campaigns (around these times) for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen will cause NPP’s defeat in 2024. DO you believe that? Or What do you think about that?
