Take Partisan Politics Out Of The Fight Against Galamsey - Akufo Addo To Chiefs

The president of the Republic of Ghana, His excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo has urged the Ashanti regional house of chiefs and the entire people of Ghana to put aside partisan politics in the fight against Galamsey.

He said since the democracy, the constitution has given the president the authority over the minerals of the state, but the influence of chiefs in the past handled the fight better, but the situation is different in the modern times.

He said the fight against Galamsey can only succeed if everyone comes on board and make a collective fight to defeat this existential threat to the Ghanaian future.

"There are many requests I intend to make of you in the close door session of our meeting, but one of the most signifi cant, which I have to state now, is to seek your assistance to take partisan political interests out of the fight against galamsey. It can only succeed if it is a truly national battle, which no one seeks to exploit for political gain, as we saw in the last election. The progress of our country depends on all of us, all citizens of Ghana, all Fellow Ghanaians, pulling together to defeat this existential threat to our future" the president told the chiefs
