The Municipal Chief Executive Nominee for Yendi has been confirmed by members of the Yendi Municipal Assembly following a second round of voting, this morning. At the end of voting today, 32 assembly members endorsed his renomination by President Akufo Addo as against eight members who voted against his second term in office. Hon. Ahmed Abubakari Yussif who has been the Chief Executive for the area since 2017 saw his position threatened after he failed to secure the mandatory two - third of votes required for his confirmation.
The MCE after the first round however failed to secure the required votes after only 20 out of 41 members present endorsed his bid. The MCE was however qualified to stand for another election after he managed secure 50 percent of the total number of votes.The rejection of the nominee in the first round of voting was seen as a slap to Northern regional executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party who had vowed to do everything within their power to ensure all MMDCEs nominees in the region received massive endorsement.
