The Ministers of Lands and Natural Resources, Information and Defense today, Wednesday, May 19, 2021 delivered updates on the Phase 3 of Operation Halt. It can be recalled that President Akufo-Addo last month authorized the use of military force to stop all illegal miners especially those operation 100 meters close to river bodies.
The operation has so far destroyed a lot of excavators, Shang fans, water pumping machines among others. Some top wigs and companies have even been at the receiving end of these operations. It can be recalled that last week Kennedy Agyapong and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II mentioned that they were aware of big wigs operating in galamsey and hindering the fight against it.
Today, during the updates deliver a journalist asked if the government was ready to speak to the MP for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong for information. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah received the question and later referred it to the Minister of lands of Natural Resources to answer.
“Are you interested in engaging Mr Kennedy Agyapong to name the so called officials who may be involved” Hon. Oppong Nkrumah posed. In response Samuel Jinapor said, “The Hon. Kennedy Agyapong is a senior colleague of mine whom I engage with many times. We speak quite often. I will speak with him and if he knows of any government officials who are involved I will be happy to find out and we will deal with it according to law.”
Do you agree with the minister that government is not aware of any government officials involved? Will government be able to deal with any big wigs?
