The General Secretary of the biggest opposition, National Democratic Congress has waded into the brouhaha about the next flagbearer of the party. Many have raised questions about the validity of John Mahama in the next election. Many feel the party needs a fresh face in the next election. Many also brag that he is the best chance for the party in the next election.
On ‘Face To Face’ with Umaru Sanda, Asiedu Nketia was asked if the NDC intends to make Alban Bagbin their flagbearer in 2024. According to Asiedu Nketia, it will do Alan Bagbin more harm than good to contest for elections in the NDC primaries.
“Let me ask you something. You know Bagbin’s rank and importance in the country. if you were Number 3, will you resign that position to go and contest presidential primaries elections, not even as a president which you can lose and after that go home. If he is there as a speaker, he will be there for 4 years.
Why will anybody resign 2 years as speaker and go contest presidential primaries which he has a high chance of losing the elections. Would you do that if you were a speaker? Why will he undermine JM when he knows he might lose his position if the NPP comes to power and will get another 4 years if he supports JM” Asiedu Nketia queried.
Will the NDC seek to maintain John Mahama in the next election? Will he go unopposed or will have challengers? Share your thoughts.
