The member of parliament for South Dayi constituency Lawyer Rockson Defeamekpor has rebuked a top journalist on live TV for what he described as endorsing the evil. The marveric legislator was a penalist on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana show hosted by Randy Abbey on Tuesday.
Today's edition focused more on the current political atmosphere which has witnessed allegations and counter allegations from the two major political leaders in Ghana, thus Mr. John Mahama and Nana Akuffo Addo.
Followers may recall that, during his thank you tour to the central region, former President John Mahama accused Nana Addo government of abandoning the Komenda Sugar Factory he started. He told the people during interview at a local radio station that he had plans of cultivating sugar canes in the area hence his decision to start the construction of a factory. He also accused the NPP Government of doing nothing for the people of Central region.
But Nana Addo rebutted his claim stating that, the former President should had started with the sugar cane cultivation which is the raw materials to feed the factory before thinking of a factory to process the raw materials. He also denied promising the people a harbour at Cape Coast. The president said what he promised was a landing site but not a harbour.
When Rockson Defeamekpor was allowed to speak on this political atmosphere, he chose to dig holes in the NPP's priority projects. According to the NDC legislator, the NPP captured in page 160 of their 2020 manifesto that Cape Coast will be given four landing sites and a harbour. He then read out the 2021 manifesto which prioritised other things including Government Communication but did not mention any of the landing sites or the revamping of the factory.
Lawyer Defeamekpor stated that, the Government budgeted $4m for Government communication alone for the year 2021. He said government considered communication a flagship project.
Randy Abbey sought to find out what was wrong with that. The astonished Defeamekpor asked what the ministry of communication does differently. In response, Dr. Randy Abbey said maybe the ministry is unable to broadcast the achievement of the government the way government communicators will do.
The disappointed MP told Randy in the face, "Randy, you are an astute journalist. You cannot accept some of these things. Which government does this? You leave a whole factory which has been completed to rot in the bush and spend a whooping $4m on communication and you think there is nothing wrong with that?"
Defeamekpor asked why the government couldn't use five years to plant sugar cane which already grow naturally in Komenda.
