Akufo-Addo Takes Fight Against Guinea Coup Leaders To UN General Assembly

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has used the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday September 22, 2021 to launch a fight against the coup leaders in Guinea.

He admonished the overthrow of the government of Guinea Professor Alpha Condé by the soldiers and urged countries to uphold Democratic and constitutional rule.

The President signified that the overthrow of constitutionally-elected governments must not be countenanced under any circumstance.

“Now quite ever we must uphold Democratic and constitutional rule,” the president said.

He further signified that the the group of West African countries called Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) which he chairs is committed to making sure that democracy is practiced all in member states.

“Recent events in Mali and Guinea have suppressed Democratic and constitutional rule within the region.

“ECOWAS is committed to give the needed care of democratic governance within the region,” he said.

Economic Community Of West African States in an earlier communique abolished the the overthrow of the government in Guinea, saying “Economic Community Of West African States commends absolute respect for the physical integrity of the President of the Republic if Guinea, His Excellency Professor Alpha Condé and his immediate and unconditional release also as that of all the personalities arrested.

“It also demands the return to constitutional order on pain of sanctions. ECOWAS reaffirms its disapproval of any unconstitutional political change.”
