Kuwait government has deported 245 Ghanaians

Some 245 Ghanaians living in Kuwait illegally will be deported to Ghana on Saturday May 23, the government has announce.

The deportees will arrive via special chartered flight at the cost of Kuwait government.

As Ghana borders still remains close to prevent importation of the novel corona virus "government of Ghana has....granted a special permit for the admission of the said deportees to Ghana" Information Minister Kwadwo Oppong Nkrumah said at press conference Friday.

The deportees will be mandatory quarantine and test for coronavirus upon arrival into the country.

Deportees who test for positive would be given necessary supportive treatment while those who test for negative will be tested for the second time at the end of the 14 days quarantine period, said Oppong Nkrumah

He said all the deportees will remain in the custody of the state in line with immigration laws of Ghana on deportees.

Preliminary investigation would then commence into circumstances of their illegal stay in Kuwaiti, the minister said.
