Sammy Gyamfi, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications director, has stated that the next NDC administration will look into and prosecute all prominent members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their involvement in illegal mining, including Bernard Antwi Bosiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, Ekow Awusi, Charles Bissue, and others.
He has emphasized that there is sufficient evidence to charge and imprison these individuals for illegally destroying forest reserves, farms, and water bodies.
On Thursday, October 6, Sammy Gyamfi told the media in Accra that if the NDC in power does not bring charges against chairman Wontumi and others to deter others, it will be the saddest day of his life.
The day the NDC decides not to bring charges against Chairman Wontumi, Ekow Awusi, and Charles Bissue for engaging in unauthorized mining will be the saddest day of my life.
"We have enough visual evidence to prosecute these individuals and all the key NPP members who are actively involved in the illegal menace," he emphasized.
He explained that the NDC is not opposed to mining in the country, but it is opposed to mining in bodies of water, and he expects the government to severely punish those who engage in such illegal activities.
