2 MMDCEs Rejected for the Third Time

Members of the Lawra Municipal Assembly have for the third time refused to confirm the president’s MCE nominee for the area, Martin Bomba-ire. The nominee was reappointed by the president after failing to secure a win on two earlier separate occasions.

Mr. Bomba-ire polled 23 “yes” as against 18 “nos”, thereby being unable to obtain the two-thirds majority of the assembly members as required by the local governance ACT.

He adds up to two other MDCEs in the Upper West region who were rejected in their earlier appointments. The two others are Christine Bombanye Amadu of the Jirapa municipal assembly and Ali Bukari of the Wa West district assembly.

Voting for the confirmation of Christine Bombanye is expected later today while that of the Wa West will be done tomorrow.

The nominees for the Lawra and Jirapa assemblies are said to be facing stiff opposition especially from some members of the governing new patriotic party in their respective districts while that of the Wa West is confronted with opposition from both the governing party and the main opposition National Democratic Congress.

Reactions of Some group of people include:

JIRAPA: Honourable Christine suffers third rejection after renomination on reasonable ground.

Even though Honourable Christine Bombanye Amadu was renominated "on reasonable ground" after she failed to secure the 2/3 votes of all Assembly Members who were present and voted, Assembly members in Jirapa have for the third time rejected the nomination of Honourable Christine Bombanye Amadu as Municipal Chief Executive.

Out of the fifty-two (52) Assembly members who were present and participated in the confirmation exercise, voted 30 YES and 21 voted NO. Like in the first and second round, one 1 rejected vote was recorded.

The Journey is Up for the Renominated candidate for Wa West District, Mr. Bukari Ali to go for his second election after failing to secure at least 2/3 in the first attempt.
